The Premier Hockey League (PHL) has experienced remarkable growth since its launch in 2019, evolving into a dynamic platform for developing young hockey talent. In its inaugural season, the league featured just four teams competing in a single division. Fast forward to the 2023/24 season, and the PHL boasts over 50 teams spread across eight showcase-style divisions, reflecting its rapid expansion and popularity.

Initially centred in Alberta, the PHL has broadened its reach to include teams from British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and even Montana, USA. The league was founded with a mission to provide players, teams, and families with a developmental platform tailored to each athlete's skill level.

All PHL member organizations are independently owned and operated, united by their commitment to delivering high-level, competitive play. By fostering a fun and developmental environment, the PHL aims to inspire young athletes to pursue their hockey dreams while enjoying their journey on the ice.

Mission Statement

The PHL was founded to provide an option for teams, coaches, players and families to develop young players at a level consistent with their abilities.

The PHL strives to improve each year by:

• Recruiting & training on-ice officials

• Communication between teams, coaches & managers

• Rules that improve the quality of our development model

• Affiliation access to higher leagues

• Arena locations to offer each area team a reasonable travel schedule

• A reasonable schedule of showcases to allow for more development of ice & exhibition games
